Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Director (AD) to join our team for a psychological horror short film. The ideal candidate will be an organized and proactive individual who can manage various aspects of production while ensuring that the director’s vision is smoothly translated onto the screen. As an AD, you will be the backbone of the on-set operations, collaborating with the director, cast, and crew to ensure the shoot stays on schedule, adheres to safety protocols, and meets creative goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-production Coordination:
Assist the director in finalizing the shot list, daily schedules, and call sheets.
Collaborate with different departments (camera, art, sound, etc.) to ensure all teams are aligned and prepared for production.
Help organize rehearsals and ensure cast and crew are briefed about the project timelines and daily goals.
On-set Management:
Supervise the crew, ensuring they follow the director’s vision and adhere to the production schedule.
Manage daily call sheets and ensure everyone is punctual and prepared for their respective tasks.
Oversee the setup of shots, ensuring all necessary preparations are in place for smooth shooting.
Monitor continuity between takes, maintaining consistency in performances, props, and camera angles.
Time Management:
Maintain strict adherence to the shooting schedule, ensuring the project stays on track and within the allocated time frame.
Proactively manage any unforeseen delays or challenges by finding quick solutions while minimizing disruption to the shoot.
Problem Solving:
Act as the primary point of contact for all on-set inquiries, troubleshooting potential issues before they escalate.
Help manage conflicts or challenges that arise between cast and crew, ensuring a positive and efficient work environment.
Post-production Preparation:
Ensure that all necessary information (shot logs, continuity notes) is properly documented and handed over to the editor for post-production.
Assist with gathering any post-shoot pickups or additional resources required for the film's completion.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Enforce safety measures on set, ensuring all crew members and actors adhere to safety protocols, especially when working in potentially intense or demanding situations (such as psychological horror scenes).
What We’re Looking For:
Experience: Previous experience as an Assistant Director (AD) or in a similar role is preferred, particularly on narrative films or short films.
Skills: Strong organizational skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving skills to handle complex logistics and team management.
Interest in Genre: Passion for psychological horror or thriller genres, with an understanding of the unique challenges and nuances of this style of filmmaking.
Communication: Excellent communication skills to coordinate across various departments and ensure clear directives from the director are followed.
Adaptability: Ability to handle pressure and adapt quickly to changes on set, ensuring minimal disruption to the production flow.
